Air Travel

Aeropuerto Mercedita. The tiny Aeropuerto Mercedita, about 5 miles (8 km) east of Ponce's downtown, has very few amenities. Rte. 506, off Rte. 52, Ponce, 00716. 787/842-6292.

The only international flights are on Continental, which shuttles between Ponce and Newark, and JetBlue, which flies between Ponce and Fort Lauderdale and New York-JFK.

Taxis at the airport use meters; expect to pay about $6 to get to downtown Ponce. All hotels have shuttles to and from the airport, but you must make arrangements in advance.
