Martineau Bay Resort & Spa

Fodor's Review:
The first large-scale resort on Vieques is having growing pains. It's in the process of being transformed from a family-friendly Wyndham into a chic W Hotel, a process that should be finished by the end of 2006. In the meantime, it has very little personality. Not that it isn't beautiful -- the plantation-style villas do sit on lushly landscaped grounds. Rooms are spacious -- at least 600 square feet -- and many have spectacular views of the northern coast, which is better known for its sunsets than the quality of its beaches. The restaurants are more than adequate, but there are much better options a short drive away. The resort is on Route 200, not far from the airport.
