  San Juan Water & Beach Club Review

  Solid $88 a night hotel, but far below standards for the $160 I paid. The shower spews water all over the floor. The bathroom has no exhaust fan. The "desk" was tiny. Only one chair in the room (King size with ocean view). No channel guide for the TV. The window shades were broken. No in-room coffee maker. Invisible room numbers on the doors. The window air conditioner was incredibly loud ... drowning out the TV (bad), but also the neighbors (good!). Drunk 20-somethings were running around the halls every night, *all* night, banging and yelling.
  
  On the plus side, the staff was very nice and the front door lets out onto a nice beach.
  
  But no way would I spend that much money for so little again. The Sheraton and Ritz Carlton are twice as nice for the same price.

  okay, great that they take dogs. Dogs on the beach, up at the wet bar, but the service in the room was terrible. We depleted our mini bar, and left all the empties on top of the TV (we had a suite). Do you think they cleaned up it? HECK NO! And replenish the bar? HECK NO! Come on, if people are digging into the mini bar as much as we were.. you would think they would replenish it big time! Also, grab your towels, you don't get much here. Even though one day the maid woke me up not giving me anything when I was suffering from a hangover. I think she felt good to put the salt in the wounds. Would I stay here again - NO, even though they were so dog friendly but the maid and the cleaning of the room is unforgiveable. I pay the bucks, you clean up... got it?

  Still chic but more casual ...service made the stay

  The hotel 5 minutes from the airport and on the beach. Lots of hued neon blue lights that serve to say you've arrived.
  I love the location and the boutique appointments of the hotel. It is certainly summer in the caribbean HOT, but when you have such beautiful and wonderful staff members serving you it even makes it hotter
  
  I loved the WET lounge on the roof top bar and the sushi restaurant. Amazing. In addition there is a small pool that overlooks the ocean but if your like me I prefer the beach. On weekends the lounge has local and world DJ's playing all kinds of music. It can be loud so be sure to request floors 5,6,7. This place is for hipsters so if your not one you may not like it.

  Ummm- OK

  I just stayed at this hotel for 5 nights. The overall experience was good, though I would not stay again unless I got a good deal... I'll start at the beginning: My wife and I arrived on Friday night April 25 around 10:30PM. The hotel is easy to spot because there are blue lights everywhere and they are visible at night from some distance. The The hotel is about 12 stories and is located right on the beach- access is easy and is a good reason tostay here! The front desk staff are terrific (and beautiful) and were very polite and professional. A very pleasant start, however... this night there was a party on the top floor, and it spilled over to the 2nd floor conference/computer/veranda area. The good part was the young and beautiful were wall-to-wall. The bad part was the music- quite loud. After a long trip from Seattle, I wanted to go right to bed, but the music made that difficult. This was the only night there was an issue, and each of the staff we talked to after that night were apologetic and assured us that was an unusual occurance.
  I must note the atmosphere. It is clear the owner/management have a vision and have worked to capture it in this hotel. It is a chic and hip spot. The water theme is everywhere, and other touches throughout the hotel reinforce that vision. There are water features (windows with water running down them; water features at the end of each floor, in the elevator, a great pool on the roof, and many smaller touches. It is unique.
  Upon entering our room on the 4th floor we were greeted with sheer curtains along all walls with glowing blue lights between the wall and curtains. The effect on us was probably not what the management had in mind, but if we were younger, it might have been exciting. The king-sized bed took up about 60% of the floor space and the work area took up another ~10%. The room was very small. The bathroom was average size and had a neat walk-in shower with a partial glass wall separating the shower from the rest of the bathroom. Unique and kind of fun. The bathroom is tiled floor to ceiling and was very nice.
  A note about cleanliness: I agree in part with another reviewer- the corners and edges of the hotel were not real clean. It did not bother me, but my wife did not like it. It brought to mind a hotel that was well used but not well maintained. For example, shoe scuffs on the bottom of the doors were plentiful, and the floor in out room was that Pergo-type that had obvious repairs. Not terrible, but not crisp and clean.
  Overall it was a pleasant stay and again- the staff was young and attactive and professional and courteous- a rare situation. In fact they are part of the reason we would stay here again if the price was right.
  I should also note that we felt safe here- we walked to a couple of places for meals were not concerened.

  I was more disappointed in this hotel than any I have ever stayed in in over 10 trips to the Caribbean or Mexico. I cannot stress enough to avoid this hotel. No amount to "hip" or "chic" makes up for extremely small rooms and bathrooms (smaller than you would expect in New York), shabbiness and just plain dirtiness. The elevator is hot, the floor is filthy, and there is always a maid cart or room service on it running over your toes. The edges of the floor and walls are unfinished in the halls. The room is too small to do much besides lay in the bed (and we asked if they had a larger room and were told no). and the bathroom is too small for 2 people to even stand in. The ceilings are popcorn, the fitted sheets are not fitted and too small and will not cover the bed and there is no mattress pad. You will find yourself sleeping directly on a dirty, stained, sagging, and creaky mattress. The sheets are of a terrible quality anyway, but at least they hopefully wash them. The walls, bedskirt and bedspread are visibly stained in many places. We only ate at the restaurant for breakfast once, it was not good and slow. The man with the beach chairs showed up late or whenever. The pool upstairs is tiny and slimy with sunscreen or whatever else, and the whole upstairs area is rented out for private parties often, so tons of people walk through the lobby, take the slow elevator up to the pool and essentially take over the whole area from about 3 pm to 3 am every day. So no naps in your room in the afternoon, and be prepared to be woken up all through the night by endless music and drinkers. All in all, I would think a very basic chain hotel would be much preferable at least for being clean, and I can think of no reason to stay here.
