Fodor's Review:
There's no question that this flashy, big, bustling beachfront resort offers something for everyone, from families to conventioneers, golfers to gamblers. Unfortunately, it's all monumentally overscaled for tiny, quiet St. Kitts and is almost devoid of real Caribbean charm and flair. Maintenance and staff are diligent, but service is inconsistent and often impersonal. Little things go wrong: phone cards don't work, bills show unwarranted minibar or dining charges, the glorious free-form pools are often surprisingly chilly, breakfast rush hour can mean interminable waits. The property is so vast that only blocks 600-800 and 1300-1500 can claim true beachfront status; ocean-view rooms often show only a speck of blue. One advantage of its size is that the resort rarely feels crowded (though DJs often blast music to create a party atmosphere). The Marriott scores points for its genuinely soothing Emerald Mist Spa; a splendid kids' area from fully loaded arcade to Club Mongoose (which tries to instill island flavor through nature hikes, limbo lessons, treasure hunts, and crafts classes); cosmopolitan cigar and lobby bars (great sushi); and a fine golf course. Suites are huge and a good value during the off-season, as are the many packages. Some of the huge, gleaming new timeshare units may be offered in a rental pool.
