Fodor's Review:
This basic, well-maintained hotel crowns a bluff above Basseterre, delivering amazing views of the town, the sea, and the mountains from every vantage point. Two-story buildings in carnival colors wind through small, pretty gardens. The newer rooms are spiffier, with vivid throw rugs and mahogany two-poster beds; studios with kitchenettes and pull-out sofas offer real bargains for families (an additional connecting room costs just $50). Avoid only the 700 block; most other rooms have jaw-dropping panoramas. The tiered sundeck and pool, replete with swim-up bar, and attractive Diana's restaurant rank among the island's top sunset perches. The minuscule man-made beach (a complimentary shuttle drops guests at Frigate Bay), irregular hours, and occasional plumbing problems are a small price to pay and don't seem to bother the laid-back divers and young Europeans who give Bird Rock an appealing international flavor.
