Elegant, gracious, and romantic, Great House was reconstructed on the foundation of the original Cap Estate plantation house. The grandeur of those early days has been revived as well. The waitstaff wears traditional St. Lucian costumes. The chef adds a piquant creole touch to traditional French cuisine -- with excellent results. The menu, which changes nightly, might include pumpkin-and-potato soup, local crab back with lime vinaigrette, sautéed Antillean shrimp in a creole sauce, and broiled sirloin with thyme butter and sweet-potato chips. Cocktails at the open-air bar are especially enjoyable at sunset. The Derek Walcott Theatre is next door.

Dined here in 2006. The building is an old plantation house overlooking the Caribbean that looks like it could have easily been a setting for one of the early James Bond movies like Dr. No! The waiters are all in black and white and the women are in traditional St. Lucian dresses (my six year old particularly loved their colorful hats). Dinner was absolutely delightful with shrimp/scallops gratinee for my wife, roasted goat cheese for me, and lobster bisque for my 6 yo duaghter as starters and then on to the main course. Perfectly done! The 6 yo had grilled fish, my wife had their specialty rack of lamb, I had a honey-glazed duck and the 18 yo daughter had beef tenderloin. Mmm! The service was excellent and we will definitely return in the future.
