The official currency is the Eastern Caribbean dollar (EC$). It's linked to the U.S. dollar at EC$2.67, but stores and hotels often exchange at EC$2.50 or EC$2.60. U.S. currency is readily accepted, but you'll probably get change in EC dollars. Major credit cards and traveler's checks are widely accepted. ATMs are available 24 hours a day at bank branches, transportation centers, and shopping malls, where you can use major credit cards to obtain cash (in local currency only). Major banks on the island include the Bank of Nova Scotia, FirstCaribbean International Bank, National Commercial Bank of St. Lucia, and the Royal Bank of Canada.
Prices quoted in this chapter are in U.S. dollars unless otherwise indicated.
