The sheltered Baie Rouge, in the French Lowlands, got its name from the lightly tinted, soft sand that borders the shoreline and is thought to have the best snorkeling beaches on the island. It's possible to swim the crystal waters along the point and explore a swim-through cave. The beach is fairly popular with the area's gay men. Baie Rouge is five minutes from Marigot, right off the main western road, Route 7, at the Nettlé Bay turnoff.
