You might feel unplugged when you step onto Pine Cay, since there is no television, telephone, or traffic to be found on the tiny private island. The charm of this resort, which was built in the 1970s, is that it never changes, and unlike Parrot Cay, it prides itself on simplicity rather than celebrity. The simple beachfront cottages, most of the staff, and what is perhaps the world's smallest airport (in truth, a gazebo) have all stayed pretty much the same for years. The 2 1/2-mi (4-km) stretch of beach is deserted, and instead of roads you can find nature trails and sun-dappled paths that crisscross the island, which can be explored by bike or on foot. Rates are fully inclusive and even include the flight from Provo. Cuisine is excellent, with fresh seafood and delicious cakes and tarts served at lunch, dinner, and afternoon tea. Far from being an ivory-tower experience, the club enables you to become a part of a small community. Guests are mostly overstressed executives, mature couples, and honeymooners; a large percentage of guests are repeats. Families are welcomed in June.

My wife and I visited the Meridian Club this past Spring. It's hard for words to do our experience justice. The Meridian Club's biggest draw is its beach. Suffice it to say it is unparalled. Miles of powder white sand that was often left just to us -- for hours! We'd spend our days lounging in the sun, reading books and swimming in the calm aqua blue waters. The Meridian Club's hospitality is very accommodating. The manager, Bev Plachta, is constantly making sure you're comfortable. The staff takes the time to get to know you on a personal level and strives to meet your every need. The resort is all inclusive and we found the food to be delicious. They serve a wide variety of foods in a myriad of different ways. Because it's a small resort, a cozy, communal environment is fostered. We enjoyed getting to know other guests. To conclude, I'd HIGHLY recommend the Meridian Club. The spectacular beach setting, its warm personalities and slow pace all combined to significantly recharge my batteries. I left feeling totally refreshed -- I can hardly wait to return so that I can feel that way again.

My husband and I have been going to The Meridian Club for many years. It is one of the few remaining unspoiled resorts in the Caribbean. The staff treats you like family so each time we go it is like a home away from home. The beach is the best we've ever experienced--and Andrew Harper agrees (October 2006 issue). It is the place we come to recharge our batteries --bringing with us books and magazines to catch up on.
An unexpected surprise this year was the recent return of managers, Bev & Wally Plachta. (They left in 2004 and, while the beach, clear blue sea, friendly staff remained, their personal attention to detail was missed.)
We are already counting down the days to our return visit in 2008.
