Blackbeard's Castle (340/776-1234 or 340/776-1829. www.blackbeardscastle.com) conducts a 45-minute to one-hour historic walking tour that starts at Blackbeard's Castle, then heads downhill to Villa Notman, Haagensen House, and the 99 steps. The cost is $35 per person and includes a tour of Haagensen House and a rum punch.
Cindy Born (340/714-1672. www.st-thomas.com/walktour) conducts a two-hour historical walking tour of Charlotte Amalie at 9:30 each weekday that starts at Emancipation Garden. The tour covers all the in-town sights and can be narrated in Spanish, Danish, German, and Japanese as well as in English. The cost is $20 per person; wear a hat and comfortable walking shoes. The tour is offered again at 12:30, but you must make a reservation.
The St. Thomas Historical Trust (340/774-5541. www.stthomashistoricaltrust.org) has published a self-guided tour of the historic district; it's available in book and souvenir shops for $1.95. Trust members also conduct a two-hour guided historic walking tour by reservation only. Call for more information and to make a reservation.
