Off the Hook

$$-$$$, Seafood, St. Thomas

User Rating: ***** 4.7

Fodor's Review:

The fish is so fresh here that you may see it coming in from one of the boats tied up at the dock just steps away. For starters, try the crispy conch fritters with sweet-hot banana-chili chutney. Entrées include a rib-sticking fish stew with scallops, shrimp, mahimahi, mussels, conch, and calamari swimming in a coconut curry broth. Steak, poultry, and pasta lovers will also find something to please at this open-air eatery. There's also a children's menu.

EXCELLENT FOOD @ A GOOD PRICE & FRESH SEA FOOD!

Posted by Zuly from Miami on 3/15/08

Off the HOOK has the best food in town ! Wow the fish is so fresh that you see it come of the boat into the restaurant. The atmosphere is cozy overlooking the water with a nice breeze. The service was excellent John was our waiter he made sure our food was good and gave us tips around town. The restaurants in St. thomas seem to have a monopoly in the pricing system they are a little over priced for what they offer compared to Miami and other places. However, Off the Hook is very fair in value for what you eat. I hope this review helps. Peace, Zuly

Great, fresh seafood perfectly prepared

Off the Hook is conveniently located near the ferry dock in Red Hook. The menu is varied and interesting without being pretentious. And the food does not disappoint. The seafood is splendidly fresh and imaginatively prepared. In fact, the food here was so good that we came back a second time after a disappointing meal at a highly reviewed (and much more expensive restaurant) elsewhere on the island. Even the old-standard rum punch is outstanding here, and the wine list includes some reasonably priced and excellent choices by the glass or by the bottle. The staff are attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable. The atmosphere is casual but views are good--it's right on the water.
