Geo-Trail Review
Gartnerkogel mountain, south of Hermagor off Route 90, fascinates geologists. Discover why by following the Geo-Trail, along which you can gather fossils and trace 50 million years of geological history. Maps are available from the local tourist office. Botanists are equally intrigued by the blue Wulfenia, which blankets the Nassfeld mountain area farther along Route 90 on the Italian border each June. The flower, which is protected under Austrian law, can be found only here and in the Himalayas.
