Rauchhaus Review

On a hillock behind St. Michael's is a primitive Rauchhaus. Dating from 1420, this farmhouse is a rare extant example of a medieval smokehouse, in which smoke from the fireplace was directed up to the threshing floor above in order to dry corn and meats. A family resided in this dwelling as late as 1950, and it remains a fascinating relic of peasant life.
