Loser Mountain

Loser Mountain Review

If time allows and you feel fit enough, do the approximately 2½-hour walk up the Loser Mountain that begins at the end of Altaussee (follow the colored marks and occasional signs), where at the top of the Panorama Strasse you can rest and refuel at your choice of two restaurants: the cafeteria-style Loser-Berg (at the very top of the mountain) or the Loserhütte. Richard Strauss also walked up the Loser, which is said to have inspired his great Alpensinfonie (Alpine Symphony). A much easier way to reach the top of the Panorama Strasse is to drive, but you pay for the privilege—€15 for your car.
