Schloss Mondsee Review

Adjacent to the golden-hued church, this former monastery is now a hotel. The centuries-old complex has a lovely garden courtyard; the accent notes of the sleekly renovated interiors are plate-glass windows and scrubbed monastic stone. Guest rooms are a bit spartan, although most are duplexes, complete with living room, bedroom, and kitchenette. Chances are you won't be using the latter too often, as the hotel has two excellent restaurants, the casual Gewölbe and the intimate, but ambitious Monchsküche. Menu delights may include beef carpaccio with shaved Parmesan and pesto, pork medallions with zucchini spaghetti, or grilled Saiblingsfilet (char) on a bed of sautéed spinach. In summer, tables are set outside in the pretty Blumenhof courtyard.
