Jell

Jell Review

In the heart of Krems's medieval Altstadt, this storybook stone cottage run by Ulli Amon-Jell (pronounced "Yell") is a cluster of cozy rooms with lace curtains, dark-wood banquettes, candlelight, and Biedermeier knickknacks on the walls. Wild mushroom omelet, pasta with forest fruits, cabbage lasagne, and lamb chops with an olive-Parmesan crust are typical dishes. There are always lighter fish and vegetarian dishes on the menu, but the chef's motto is, "None goes home hungry from my tavern." In summer book ahead for a table under the grape arbor in the small, secluded outdoor dining area. Ask the waitstaff about the preserves, sauces and other jarred delicacies for sale.
