In nearby Deutsch Wagram, this sprawling complex, with its eclectic series of rooms bounteously decorated with everything from antiques to hunting trophies, has a reputation for excess in the food department as well. Eccentric owner Gerhard Bocek has a smile for every guest. The menu's standards—Wiener Schnitzel, roast pork, lamb—are more successful than the more expensive efforts at innovation, but in spring try one of the various dishes highlighting spargel (asparagus), the specialty of the region. Deutsch Wagram is 9 km (5½ mi) southwest of Strasshof, 17 km (11 mi) northeast of Vienna on Route 8.
