Altes Zechhaus Review
Perched at the top of the Altstadt (Old Town), this centuries-old drinking tavern is still going strong. Choose from the tempting panoply of salads downstairs and then order a hearty schnitzel or spit-roasted chicken. When in season, go for the freshly picked Vienna Woods mushrooms, fried in batter or served in a creamy sauce. Try to get a table upstairs in the wood-beamed Gothic Room, where plank tables are set against ancient stone walls and mullioned windows. Check out the house wine with its bawdy label, on display in the foyer.
