Hotel Esplanade Zagreb Review

This beautiful hotel, diagonally across from the train station, was built in 1925 for travelers on the original Orient Express. Louis Armstrong, Elizabeth Taylor, Charles Lindbergh, Orson Welles, Woody Allen, Queen Elizabeth II, and Richard Nixon all stayed here, among other famous names, many of whom left photos for the celebrity wall downstairs. Regular renovations, the last one in 2004, have only enhanced the hotel's luxury and elegance. From its immaculate, Habsburg-era lobby to its dining room replete with huge, resplendent chandeliers, and from its domed ballroom to its spacious outdoor terrace with sweeping views, the Esplanade remains adored by business travelers and tourists alike. The spacious, high-ceilinged rooms and marble bathrooms won't disappoint, and you'll love the special touches like a glass of champagne on check-in and classical music playing in the hallways. Rates for the smallest doubles during Zagreb's low season (early July to late August) are surprisingly affordable.
