Hotel Thermal Review

The 20th century raises its head in the form of this huge, bunker-like hotel, across the river from the historic district. Built in the late 1960s as the communist idea of luxury, the building is an aesthetic thumb in the eye compared with the rest of the town. The rooftop pool, however, is nothing short of spectacular. Even if you don't feel like a swim, it's worth taking the winding road up to the baths for the view—and, of course, you can't see the hotel if you're on top of it. Another reason to visit: the hotel is the main venue of the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival in early July.
