English-Language Media in Copenhagen

English-Language Media

Books

Boghallen, the bookstore of the Politiken publishing house, offers a good selection of English-language books. Arnold Busck has an excellent selection, and also textbooks, CDs, and comic books. Gad Boglader runs shops in various parts of the city, including one on Strøget and another in the new Royal Library, and offers a broad assortment of English-language volumes, fiction and nonfiction, along with other items of interest. Most of these stores have a large section devoted to Denmark and Danish literature. Another option for the bookworm would be to browse the many used-book shops that dot the city.

Newspapers & Magazines

The Copenhagen Post (www.cphpost.dk) is a weekly newspaper that covers Danish news in English. Particularly helpful is its insert, In & Out, with reviews and listings of restaurants, bars, nightclubs, concerts, theater, temporary exhibits, flea markets, and festivals in Copenhagen. Anyone planning on staying in Copenhagen for a long period should peruse the classified ads listing apartment-rental agencies and jobs for English-speakers. It's available at select bookstores, some hotels, and tourist offices. The biannual magazine Scandinavian Living (www.scandinavium.comau/scanliving.htm) includes articles on Scandinavian culture, food, and architecture and also lists the latest bars, restaurants, and shops. It's sold at the tourist office, as well as at some stores and hotels.
