Egeskov Slot

Egeskov Slot Review

The moated Renaissance Egeskov Slot, one of the best-preserved island-castles in Europe, presides over the town of Kværndrup, 15 km (9 mi) north of Svendborg. Peaked with copper spires and surrounded by Renaissance, baroque, English, and peasant gardens, the castle is still a private home, though visitors can see a few of the rooms, including the great hall, the hunting room, and the Riborg Room, where the daughter of the house was locked up from 1599 to 1604 after giving birth to a son out of wedlock. The castle also has an antique vehicle museum.
