First Great Western, Wales and West, Virgin, Central, and Thames trains serve the region from London's Paddington Station, or, less frequently, from Euston. Travel time from Paddington to Bath is about 90 minutes. Most trains to Cheltenham (2 hours) and Gloucester (1¾ hours) involve a change at Swindon. A three-day or seven-day Heart of England Rover ticket is valid for unlimited travel within the region.

Some pointers for reaching central Cotswold destinations by train follow. Broadway: train to Moreton-in-Marsh or Evesham, then bus or taxi locally to reach the town. Burford: train to Oxford, then bus from the Taylor Institute. Cirencester: train from London Paddington to Kemble (4 mi from town). Bourton-on-the-Water, Chipping Campden, and Stow-on-the-Wold: train to Moreton-in-Marsh, then local bus lines (some have minimal schedules).
