Calcot Manor Review

In an ideal world everyone would sojourn in this oasis of opulence at least once; the luxury never gets in the way of the overall air of relaxation, however, a tribute to the warmth and efficiency of the staff. A quintessential country-house hotel, it's also family-friendly, with a high-tech children's play area as well as a luxurious spa. The modern guest rooms are spacious and quiet; family suites have refrigerators and either bunk beds or singles in a separate room. Dishes at the elegant Conservatory restaurant are a blend of traditional and modern elements, whereas the Gumstool Inn provides more-farmhouse-style fare. The hotel is 3 miles west of town.

    Just perfect

    Well, I almost cannot fault this place. We've just had a weekend there with our 3 kids and extended family. Our room was very large with a view over fields, and patios doors to an ourside area with a table and chairs. Off the main bedroom, was a room set up for our 3 kids with a portable DVD player. The bathroom was large with a seperate shower big enough for two. The buildings are gorgeous and all the furishings tasteful and in good condition. Service was courteous, pleasant and quick although they forgot to arrange babysitting the first night which is why I've given them a 4 instead of a 5. The food is tremendous, not Michelin 3 star but extremely competant and tasty. The spa is top notch. There are 17 staff there, and even so, treatments had to be booked well in advance. My wife had a hot stone massage which she thought fantastic. The indoor pool was not surprisingly a hit with the kids. We also used their bikes and with 15 of us, I was amazed that they had a bike to suit everyone.. The kids club took 7 of our families kids on several occassions for a hour or two and the kids loved it. Overall, for a family friendly up market hotel, this place ticked all the boxes for us in every respect. We will definitely go again. I only wish that we'd found it years ago.
