Barnsley House Review

A honey-and-cream Georgian mansion, the former home of garden designer Rosemary Verey has been discreetly modernized and converted into a luxurious retreat without sacrificing its essential charm.

The chic guestrooms are meticulously and individually designed, and the well-tended gardens, overlooked by the dining room, continue to dazzle. A private movie theater and a relaxing spa add to the sybaritic feel of the place. Menus in the Potager restaurant reveal strong Italian and Mediterranean influences in such classic dishes as the vincisgrassi (baked pasta with Parma ham, porcini mushrooms, and truffles). The hotel—run by the same folks as Calcot Manor—also operates the nearby Village Pub, a less formal alternative to the restaurant here. Barnsley House is 4 miles northeast of Cirencester.
