London Nightlife

White Cube

White Cube Review

The English role in the exploding contemporary art scene has been major, thanks in good portion to Jay Joplin's influential gallery, which has regularly moved around London over the past 15 years. The striking modern concrete structure was the first free-standing building to be built in the area for 30 years when it opened in 2006. It is home-base for an array of British artists who have won the Turner Prize—Hirst, Emin, Hume, et al. A larger space, in an ex-warehouse south of the river in Bermondsey, opened in 2011 and is Europe's largest commercial gallery.
