Koffmann's

Koffmann's Review

Set in the Berkeley hotel, this is the "last hurrah" of noted French chef Pierre Koffmann, now in his mid-sixties, and the very antithesis of a celebrity chef. Never paying heed to trends, the clientele here enjoys such classic signatures as delicately seared hand-dived scallops with black squid ink and famed stuffed pig's trotters "Tante Claire" with sweetbreads and morels. The Gascon-born Koffmann showcases 35-odd years of experience and the best of unreconstructed regional Gascony cuisine in a jolie, carpeted, and well-appointed informal basement setting. Alongside a steady stream of celebs and minor British royalty, be sure to experience other renowned gastro goodies like snails with garlic and parsley, wild duck à l'orange, Gascon apple tart, or signature pistachio soufflé with pistachio ice cream—before it is too late! Two neat ways in are the £25.50 to £28 3-course lunches or the £28 pre-theater specials.
