Opera Tavern

Opera Tavern Review

Mouthwatering acorn-rich Ibérico pig's-head terrine? Chargrilled salt-marsh lamb with broad beans? Mini Ibérico pork and foie gras burgers? These are three of the outstanding Spanish and Italian tapas dishes presented at the handily situated Opera Tavern, opposite the historic Drury Lane theater, and not far from Covent Garden piazza and the Royal Opera House. Clamber in at the overcrowded ground-floor tapas bar (avoiding the accoustically challenged second-floor dining salon if you can) and, after enjoying an amuse-bouche of crispy pig's ears, opt for the rich empanadas of venison, the Italian Scotch eggs, braised cuttlefish, or Venetian-style sardines. Authentic? The menu warns that all game here may have "shot" in it. Watch out too for the £40 to £45 set tapas meals for groups of 7 up.
