Yashin
Yashin Review
Without Soy Sauce...but if you want to proclaims the neon sign on the glazed green-tiled wall behind the open chefs' counter at London's best sushi bar (right off Ken High Street). Take their advice, bag a ringside counter seat, and watch head chef and co-founder Yashuhiro Mineo and co. tease, slice, tweak, and blowtorch their way through dish after dish of the most awesome/fresh/funky/spunky/colorful and exquisite "omakase" sushi, sashimi, salads, and carpaccios that you're likely to find this side of the East China Sea. Tofu-topped miso cappucino comes in a Victoriana cup-and-saucer, and softshell blue crab salad is a tangle of zingy mizuna leaves. Delectable 8, 11, or 15-piece omakase sushi spreads (£30-£60) might mesmerize with ponzu-spiked salmon, Japanese sea bream with rice cracker dust, salted wagyu, or Japanese botan prawns with foie gras. Alternatively, the bargain £12.50 5-piece salmon nigiri set-lunch, with hot miso and bracing salad, is a smashing way to sample Yashin's below-the-radar brilliance.
