Although the number of bells in its name has varied between eight and twelve (depending on many bells were used by neighboring Christ Church Spitalfields), this pub retains its authentic mid-Victorian interior and original tiles, with a tiled frieze depicting the area's weaving tradition on the north wall and particularly fine floral tiling on two others. Legend has it the Ripper's third victim, Annie Chapman, had a drink here before meeting her gory end and the pub is depicted in Alan Moore's acclaimed graphic novel From Hell. More recently, the Ten Bells has gained a more positive kind of fame for its outstanding upstairs restaurant.
