Standard holidays include: New Year's Day, Good Friday, Easter Monday, May Day (1st Mon. in May), spring and summer bank holidays (last Mon. in May and Aug., respectively), Christmas, and Boxing Day (Dec. 26). On Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve, some shops, restaurants, and businesses close early. Some museums and tourist attractions are also closed then. If you want to book a hotel room during this period, make sure you do it well in advance, and check to see whether the hotel restaurant will be open.
