The October "half-term," when schools in the capital take a break for a week, results in most attractions being overrun by children. The start of August can be a very busy time, and hot weather makes Tube travel a nightmare. Air-conditioning is far from the norm in London, even in hotels; so while it rarely tops 90°F, it can feel much hotter. And shopping in central London just before Christmas borders on insane.
