The Northeast Places

Lindisfarne (Holy Island)

Getting Here and Around

By car, the island is reached from the mainland via a long drive on a causeway that floods at high tide, so check when crossing is safe. The times, which change daily, are displayed at the causeway and printed in local newspapers. Traffic can be heavy; allow at least a half hour for your return trip. The only public transportation to Holy Island is run by Perryman's Buses. Bus 477 has limited service (two buses a day in summer, and not every day) from Berwick-upon-Tweed railroad station to the island.
