Lindisfarne Priory
Lindisfarne Priory Review
In the year 875, Vikings destroyed the Lindisfarne community; only a few monks escaped, carrying with them Cuthbert's bones, which they reburied in Durham. The sandstone Norman ruins of Lindisfarne Priory, reestablished in the 11th century by monks from Durham, remain impressive and beautiful. A museum here displays Anglo-Saxon carvings.
