Near the Long Man of Wilmington, this small "restaurant with rooms" in a whitewashed house with 2 acres of gardens is decorated in warm, upbeat colors that contrast with the lovely antique furniture. Convenient for walks in the countryside, the hotel is near the hills of the South Downs, a 15-minute drive from the Glyndebourne Opera House. The restaurant serves good, if slightly retro, British cuisine (£38 for 3 courses). There's also a cottage offering more privacy and a kitchen.
