The West Country: Places to Explore

Totnes

This busy market town on the banks of the River Dart preserves plenty of its medieval past, and on summer Tuesdays some shopkeepers dress in Elizabethan costume. Market days proper are Friday and Saturday, when the town's status as a center of alternative medicine and culture becomes especially clear, with an abundance of crafts stalls. The historic buildings include a guildhall and St. Mary's Church.
