When to Go to England
The English tourist season peaks from mid-April to mid-October, and many historic houses close from October to Easter. During July and August, accommodations in popular resorts and areas are in high demand. In 2012, the London Olympics take place July 27 to August 12. The winter cultural season in London is lively. Hotel rates are lower then, too. Spring and fall can be good alternatives, as prices are still below high-season rates, and crowds are thinner. Generally, the climate in England and Wales is mild. Summer temperatures can reach the mid-80s, but it's more likely to be cooler and cloudier than you expect. In winter there can be heavy frost, thin snow, thick fog, and rain, rain, rain. Here are average daily maximum and minimum temperatures for two cities.
