L'Ami Fritz Review
Set several miles west of Obernai, this reader-recommended, 18th-century, white-shuttered, flower-bedecked stone house treats visitors to fine meals and accommodates overnight guests in impeccable rooms done up in toile de Jouy and homespun checks (opt for one in the main hotel, not the adjacent annex). Some suites can sleep three, making them good for families, and the heated outdoor pool also comes in handy. The restaurant (reservations essential; closed to nonguests Wednesday) is one of the region's top attractions. Here you can savor Patrick Fritz's sophisticated twists on regional specialties, including a salad of warm suckling pig, a delicate choucroute of fresh and smoked fish in beurre blanc, or beer-braised pork cheeks with spaeztle. Don't miss the fruity red wine, an Ottrott exclusive.
