King Juan Carlos of Spain, Celine Dion, and the Rolling Stones have all graced this spectacular hotel which began life as a Jesuit convent but whose glowing fireplaces, Florentine crystal chandeliers, Baroque credenzas, and guest rooms swathed in Venetian red and antique Lyon silks now make monastic austerity a very distant memory. Set around an arcaded and glassed-in Renaissance courtyard, most rooms are like artists' ateliers, replete with Philippe Starck bathrooms. Best of all, the newly Michelin-starred restaurant, Les Loges, is one of Lyon's best, with a graceful dining room, a cellar-level wine bar, a separate café-épicerie restaurant with a lovely vaulted ceiling and, best of all, Chef Anthony Bonnet, one of Lyon's top young talents.
