L'Hôtel Particulier Review

Once owned by the Baron of Chartrouse, this extraordinary 18th-century hôtel particulier (mansion) is delightfully intimate and decorated in sophisticated yet charming style, with gold-framed mirrors, white-brocade chairs, marble writing desks, artfully hung curtains, and hand-painted wallpaper. White rooms look out onto a beautifully landscaped garden; even if you take the five-minute walk into the center of town you can come back, stretch out by the pool, and listen to the birds chirp, or head to the spa for an essential-oil massage. Le Bistrot, open mid-May to mid-October (closed Sunday and Tuesday), serves only three-course dinner meals.

    lovely hotel but...

    ... you need to make sure you pay extra and your room is in the old part. Not the modern annex. That would be why the above reviewer said the room smelt. It's a pretty hotel in a peaceful location and the staff try hard to make your stay enjoyable. The was so so, but the breakfast very good.

    Disappointing

    While we very much looked forward to staying here we were disappointed on arrival. Our room was spacious but the overwhelming odors made it uninhabitable. Two other rooms were offered, one where we could stay only one night and one that had the same odor that triggered both our allergies. The courtyard was lovely and the location good but if you have any sensitivity at all to odors this isn't the place.
