Château du Domaine St. Martin Review

Occupying the site of an ancient Knights Templar fortress and set amid acres of greenery designed by Jean Mus, this hilltop domain welcomes you with light, airy public salons and luxurious guest quarters that include two- and three-bedroom villas accented with beautiful antiques. But Le Saint-Martin restaurant, with its two Michelin stars, is perhaps the best reason to come here: Chef Yannick Franques's creations are superb, and the panoramic terrace views over Old Vence to the Baie des Anges are eye-popping. Breakfast is included; afternoon tea and rare champagnes are offered in the hotel lounge.

    We did not stay at the Chateau, but dined here. The setting is indescribable. In summer, dining can be al fresco on a spacious patio overlooking the Baie des Anges or indoors in one of the most beautiful dining rooms I have ever seen. The food was luscious and the service was attentive and personal. Before we dined we stopped at reception and concierge offered to take us on a tour of the property. He was clearly proud of the Chateau and enthusiastically related its history and described its many amenities. If the rooms are anything like the common areas they must be warm and elegant. The prices are high even for the Cote d'Azur, but if it's in your budget don't hesitate. It's an unbelievbly magical place. Very romantic!
