Friends meet here in the Nikolaiviertel to enjoy the carefully prepared entrées and to sample spirits from the amply stocked bar, all served by friendly, tie-wearing waiters. The honey-glazed breast of duck, Adlon, is one of its specialties. There's a nice outdoor area for dining.

This lovely location cannot fail to impress with the walls festooned with the signed portraits of a multitude of film stars and so on. Service is fairly formal but very attentive; the menu is all in German except the headings which are in French! The menu is pretty predictable- not the sort of place where ones mouth waters at the description of clever juxtapositions of different flavours and textures. My smoked salmon finely shredded was enjoyable but the accoutrements heavy with mayonnaise and pumpernickel; the main course of duck was slightly tough, nicely pink but quite flavourless. The accompanying vegetables a nice mixture although heavily roasted and the pommes dauphinoise predictable. The dessert of bramble ice cream was large but boring as were the rest of the dessert options with the usual clichees of creme caramel and chocolate pudding. Coffee was tasty although lacking texture ( probably limited by coffees avaiable in Germany. Wine list was uninspiring although most of the wines offered by the bottle were available by the glass- well done! Prices were high at approx 30 euros for a main and most wines starting at 30 euros plus. Paying for location and atmosphere. I would only come back for coffee and to soak in 1930's style
