Alte Nikolaikirche (Old St. Nicholas Church) Review

This small red sandstone church was built in the late 13th century as the court chapel for emperors of the Holy Roman Empire. Try to time your visit to coincide with the chimes of the carillon, which rings three times a day, at 9:05 in the morning, and at 12:05 and 5:05 in the afternoon.

    Beautiful Historic Gem

The beautiful simplicity of this little church is its' drawing point. It is attractive both inside and out. If you make it there during a service, you will be able to enjoy hearing their pipe organ. Even Jim Morrison of the Doors, enjoyed playing this organ back in the late 60's. The grave platter from one of the old mayors of Frankfurt, Siegfried zum Paradies who died in 1380, is also to be found on the wall inside the church.
