Hotel Die Hirschgasse Review

A stunning castle view marks this historic inn (1472), located across the river opposite Karlstor. Convivial Ernest Kraft and his British wife Allison serve upscale regional specialties (and wines from the vineyard next door) in the Mensurstube ($$-$$$), once a tavern where university students indulged in fencing duels, as mentioned in Mark Twain's A Tramp Abroad. Beamed ceilings, stone walls, and deep red fabrics make for romantic dining in elegant Le Gourmet ($$$-$$$$). The hotel's decor is also romantic, filled with floral prints, artwork, and deep shades of red. The suites are quite large, comfortable, and elegantly appointed.

    Hotel Die Hirschgasse Review

    Hotel Die Hirschgasse is our favorite hotel in the world. We found this hotel in 2006. Last trip to Germany was 2009. We love this hotel so much that we stayed for two weeks. We had plans to visit other cities after a week stay at Hotel Die Hirschgasse. We left for one night to Baden Baden and were so disappointed, we called Die Hirschgasse to see if we could come back. Not only did they make room for us, they gave us our favorite room. The hotel is beautiful, the food is perfect and the owner's and staff are the best! The room we stay in feels just like home and the staff wants you to feel that way. Whatever you want or need, they are there for you. When you visit a foreign country somtimes it can be a bit intimidating. Not at Hotel Die Hirschgasse. We cannot wait to go back for a visit, and we will only visit Die Hirschgasse for another two week stay at this perfect hotel. I have seen some ratings about it not being in the old city. That is part of it's charm walking across the old bridge to the city. When you get back from a busy day of sightseeing, it is so nice and quiet. When we get back to our room, we do see so many peoplpe coming and going to their restaurant. Next time, we will have dinner there. It has to be amazing food since the people of Heidelberg come to eat. We have had their breakfast and some room service and it is so good!

    Old world charm

    Stayed for 4 nights on a business trip. Comfortable rooms, excellent service, food in the Menurstube excellent.
