A hole-in-the-wall where tourists rarely venture, this former cooper's workshop is now a candlelit pub filled with locals seated at long wooden tables. It's hard not to fall into conversation with the people at your elbow. This restaurant is popular with students, as it serves up inexpensive meals that really stick to the ribs. The menu features wines and specialties from Baden and the Pfalz, such as Schäufele (pickled and slightly smoked pork shoulder); or a hearty Pfälzer Teller, a platter of bratwurst, Leberknödel (liver dumplings), and slices of Saumagen (a spicy meat-and-potato mixture encased in a sow's stomach).
