The Weissenhof Colony was a minicity created for a 1927 exhibition of the "New Home." Sixteen leading architects from five countries -- among them Mies van der Rohe, Le Corbusier, and Walter Gropius -- created residences that offered optimal living conditions at affordable prices. The still-functioning colony is on a hillside overlooking Friedrich-Ebert-Strasse. To get there from the city center, take Bus 43 toward Killesberg/Messe to the Kunstakadamie stop or subway U7 to the Messe. The i-Punkt Weissenhof issues a brochure indicating which architects designed the various homes and is the meeting point for guided tours (Saturday 11 AM).
