A pioneer of the Rheinhessen restaurant scene, Wolfgang Dubs focused on creative regional cuisine and seasonal specialties long before it was in vogue. Fish, fowl, meat, and game are all expertly prepared and garnished—often with an Asian or Mediterranean accent. For a more casual meal, try his cozy Gasthaus Zum Schiff ($-$$), next door, where the daily specials are a very good value. A wine enthusiast, Dubs offers his own wines, top German and French estates, and a few New World wines, such as Opus One. Rheindürkheim is 9 km (5½ mi) north of Worms via B-9. The restaurant is near the Kirche (church), not far from the riverbank.
