Occupying a restored silk factory -- still swathed in original, 1920s stonework -- Athinais is one of the best of a wave of arts spaces sprouting up in Athens's old industrial district. The complex houses the Museum of Ancient Cypriot Art, containing treasures dating back to the 9th century BC; a host of gallery spaces with rotating exhibits; a concert hall; a theater; two restaurants; and a cinema, which usually screens classic or art films. The best time to visit is at night: see a movie or concert, stroll through the galleries and museum, have dinner, and finish off with a drink at the au courant Boiler Bar.
