Sardelles Review

If you love seafood and don't want to pay a fortune for it, don't miss this trendy and beautifully designed eatery near Mamacas. The simple lines of Greek island decor are evident in wooden kafeneio (coffeehouse) tables and 1950s-style metal-frame garden chairs picked up at auctions and painted dazzling white. Try the cod cutlets, the grilled fish drizzled with mastic-flavor sauce, and the house specialty, the sardines ("sardelles")—either the classic recipe or the "hot and spicy" in rock salt. Also recommended are any of the house salads, especially the mixed greens with goat cheese and pomegranate seeds and the potato-and-zucchini salad with spearmint. Top it off with a free hot mastiha drink and a slice of lemon or chocolate tart. In the summer the tables extend out to the busy street bustling with nightlife.
