Aegeon Beach Hotel Review

Nothing can beat this hotel's location—much objected to by environmentalists and archaeologists—on the beach at the foot of the peninsula whose lofty prow holds the Temple of Poseidon, above the very harbor where ancient ships once navigated. All guest rooms have balconies, most have sea views, and a few gaze up at the temple. The hotel was fully renovated for the 2004 Olympic games, opting for a wood-and-marble minimalism. The restaurant, from where you can enjoy the sunset, serves Continental and Greek cuisine and fresh fish. Be warned: the beach with crystal-clear waters gets crowded in high season. It's a just 20-minute uphill walk to the ancient temple; the hotel is at the foot of the eastern end of the Sounion peninsula, the temple sits atop the western end (see hotel's Web site home-page photo).
